Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: In addition to other celebratory events, the Executive Committee recommended that the complete writings of Jefferson be published to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth. Kimball was a member of the Advisory Committee appointed to oversee this undertaking. While planning began on "The Papers of Thomas Jefferson" as early as 1940, the first volume did not appear until 1950 (as of 2002, only 29 of the planned 50 volumes have been published).
