Kimball served on the Committee on Sculpture which was charged with selecting a sculptor to complete a monumental bronze statue of Jefferson for the center of the marble rotunda. As such, Kimball and the committee developed a prospectus for the competition, selected finalists, and in October 1941, awarded Rudolph Evans the commission.
