Publicity, 1928-1940, 1945-1954, undated
Scope and Contents
This sub-subseries documents Kimball's use of mass media and personal appearances to reach the broadest audience possible. Most of the press releases in these files precede the 1950 appointment of the museum's full-time press representative, Alice Goudy, whose work with Kimball is represented here in a small file of correspondence and miscellaneous papers. Like the Bulletin articles, curatorial and other administrative staff wrote their share of press releases regarding their areas of expertise. In addition to the radio talks by Stewart Dick, the museum's lecturer in 1930, Kimball also gave radio and television interviews and what appear to be prerecorded announcements.
Kimball also made public appearances at a variety of organizations and wrote articles about the museum for non-PMA publications, ranging from professional journals to newsletters of local institutions. These files, as well as most of the radio talks and lectures, were transferred from the Fiske Kimball Papers. Documentation of some of Kimball's addresses given at events held at the museum are filed in the "Events" sub-subseries and referenced below.
The Fiske Kimball Papers also contain clippings about Kimball's appointment and accomplishments as director. He kept these as part of his "memorabilia" files, which are referenced below.
