Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This sub-subseries describes a variety of fundraising initiatives undertaken by the museum. As documented in the first file of correspondence, rather than seek a donor to fund a particular object, Kimball instead was planning a trip to Europe in 1929 to seek objects for donors who had "not yet been provided with satisfactory objects." The next ten files relate to objects, collections or installations needing donors. Many of the lists indicate that the museum often purchased objects and then sought the necessary donors. Ending this group are files of presentation binders and folders, which appear to have been prepared by the museum for potential subscribers in order to show them the objects their dollars could help to fund. The next nine files, from "Special gifts" to "Hope deferred...," deal with objects, rooms or collections for which donors already were secured. In addition to the various lists of subscribers, a few of these folders pertain to the tablets identifying the donors of the various period rooms and collections. "Other papers" and "Various notes" files contain miscellaneous documentation of object-related purchasing and donors. The last five files document non-object funding, such as curatorial endowments, or the funding of multiple programs, including object purchases. In the last file of correspondence, Kimball thanks contributors to the salary of Kneeland McNulty, an assistant in the Print Department. McNulty was a former G.I. and applied for the position through the Veteran Administration "Training on the Job" program.
