Correspondence. Lamar, Mrs. Joseph R., 1930-1935

Dumbarton House was built around 1800 in the Federal style, and is located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The house was purchased in 1928 by the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America to serve as the association's headquarters. The Society hired local architect Horace W. Peaslee to renovate the house to its early 19th century appearance, and contracted Kimball to serve as their architectural advisor. In this capacity, Kimball reviewed Peaslee's architectural plans, and made suggestions for their modification based on his extensive research on domestic architecture of the period. The records are comprised primarily of correspondence with Peaslee and Mrs. Joseph R. Lamar of the Colonial Dames; some architectural plans are also included.
