General planning and donor development, 1922-1940, 1949-1953, undated

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

These papers pertain to the museum's overall plans to raise funds and cultivate donors. As used in this subseries, the term "donor" refers to someone contributing money rather than objects. A contemporary term used in many of the papers refers to these contributions as "subscriptions." One of the projects included here is a 1929 survey. In an attempt to gain a profile of the current museum goer, the museum conducted personal interviews of 1,000 visitors, classifying each by occupation, including housewife and farmer. The index card, notes and clippings apparently served as Kimball's working files on prospective donors. Additional clippings, transferred from the Fiske Kimball Papers, were added. The remaining files contain printed material, mostly brochures, created by the museum and other institutions to promote various fundraising programs.
