Biographical / Historical
The Philadelphia Museum of Art received a significant bequest from Daniel W. Dietrich II, who was a longtime supporter of the museum. He was a lifelong art collector with a significant interest in American Art. Dietrich also supported the purchase of The Paul Strand Collection from the Aperture Foundation and a new endowment in the amount of $10 million. Entitled The Daniel W. Dietrich II Fund for Excellence in Contemporary Art, this endowment gift will help the museum build the capacity of our Department of Contemporary Art and, as Dietrich wished, enable the museum to encourage innovation and experimentation in this field.
