Biographical / Historical

The Philadelphia Museum of Art received a significant bequest from Daniel W. Dietrich II, who was a longtime supporter of this institution. We have also received from Dan’s charitable funds several gifts that will support the utilization of this collection, help us complete the purchase of The Paul Strand Collection from the Aperture Foundation, and establish a new endowment in the amount of $10 million. Entitled The Daniel W. Dietrich II Fund for Excellence in Contemporary Art, this endowment gift will help us build the capacity of our Department of Contemporary Art and, as Dan wished, enable us to encourage innovation and experimentation in this field.

Dietrich was a lifelong art collector with a significant interest in American Art.
