Grubb, Violet Sopwith. Biographical information. Obituary, 1958
Scope and Contents
This sub-series is comprised of information about Thomas Eakins's friends, students, sitters, relatives and other associates, including Charles Bregler, Clarence Cranmer, Mary Hallock Greenewalt, Elizabeth Macdowell Kenton, Samuel Murray, Mary Adeline Williams, and Lucy Langdon W. Wilson. The majority of the material was compiled in the early 1930s when Goodrich correspondended with and/or interviewed many of these people on his frequent research trips to Philadelphia. According to Goodrich, he did not take notes during or taperecord interviews, but rather returned to his hotel room at the end of a long day of research and then wrote down all that he could remember about the interviews he had conducted that day. Goodrich also took these visits as an opportunity to view Eakins's works owned by his interviewees.
