American Council of Learned Societies, 1934-1948

Kimball correspondence primarily with the author, Richard Offner, and the secretary of his Berlin office, Henrietta Hardenberg, regarding the status of the work and related financial matters. Other topics included proposals for publishers, incorporation and funding, and logistical concerns, such as the removal of plates and stock from Berlin to London. There is also a significant amount of correspondence between Kimball and other members of New York University's Committee on the Florentine Corpus, specifically the University's comptroller Leroy Kimball. The committee was formed in 1931 by the University's Chancellor Elmer Ellsworth Brown to oversee the distribution of donated funds for the book's production. Correspondence with various publishers, printers, financial institutions, and donors, including the American Council of Learned Societies, Percy Straus, and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller is also included.
