 File — Box: 107, Folder: 4

Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Kimball was a member of the Rockefeller Center Art Advisory Committee appointed to oversee the artistic scheme of the fourteen original buildings in this complex. The Committee selected the theme "New Frontiers" and chose artists to contribute over 100 works, ranging from mosaics to architectural friezes, and from sculptures to murals. The records are comprised primarily of correspondence with the architects, Reinhard & Hofmeister, Corbett, Harrison & MacMurray, and Hood & Fouilhoux; the engineer, Todd, Robertson, Todd; the developers, Nelson A. Rockefeller and John D. Rockefeller, Jr.; competing and participating artists, including Gaston Lachaise; and other committee members, specifically Edward Forbes and Paul J. Sachs. Of particular interest are the lists of American and European sculptors, women sculptors, and mural painters considered; clippings about the Rivera mural; and a brochure for the Radio City Theatres and program from its inaugural concert, which Kimball attended with five other guests.
