Correspondence with the editors, 1923-1926, 1931, 1936

Following World War I, Kimball was asked by the editors of Allgemeines Lexikon der bildenden Kunstler, a comprehensive dictionary of artists and architects known commonly as Thieme Becker, to oversee the compilation of the American biographies and to help secure financial backing in the United States to ensure the German publication's continuation. The records consists primarily of correspondence with the editors Fred C. Willis and Hans Vollmer; the publisher E. A. Seemann; potential donors; American contributors recruited by Kimball, particularly Blake-More Godwin, Lawrence Park, and Francis Hill Bigelow; and the various American libraries, museums and universities that subscribed to the dictionary, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the Fogg Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the New York Public Library, Princeton University, the Boston Public Library, the University of Virginia, and the Worcester Museum of Art. There are also draft biographical entries, proof pages, and memos.
