Committee on Modern Art. Correspondence, clippings and ephemera, 1929-1934, undated

 File — Box: 128, Folder: 6

Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Although documentation for most of the following committees is minimal and the time span covered is limited, the files pertaining to two temporarily appointed committees are more complete in scope and number of items. In 1943, the Board of Trustees appointed a special committee to review and report on the functioning of the museum's School of Industrial Arts and Textile Institute. Much of Kimball's correspondence prior to their April report examines other museums' education departments and schools. In 1948 the Board of Governors, calling upon some of its own members, initiated the Visiting Committees for Examination of the Museum. Working in teams of two, these committees conducted inspections of the various galleries and period rooms and submitted reports on their findings. Although the board abandoned these inspections after several months, the Associate Committee of Women conducted a few inspections of the Fairmount Park houses. Those reports are also included here.
