Jenks, John Story. Correspondence, January-February 1929
Scope and Contents
Of the three standing committees, the Committee on Museum appears to have been the only one filed as such in Kimball's records. In 1947, the committee was renamed the Board of Governors of the Museum. Almost all of the 20 years of correspondence is that of John Story Jenks, who became chairman in 1926. Until his death in 1946, Jenks was also a member of the Board of Trustees and in 1933 was appointed vice president, along with George D. Widener.
Most of the minutes to each meeting is devoted to the Director's Report, which Kimball presented. In these reports, he summarized the daily activities of the museum, including recent acquisitions, any events or exhibitions currently on view, attendance reports and general office matters. The minutes also included committee resolutions, which ranged from offering formal thanks for a gift to seeking funds for particular purchases. Other papers included in these files are the meeting agendas and a variety of the related material Kimball apparently used to prepare his report. There are no minutes from 1936 through 1942.
