Scope and Content Note From the Sub-Series: The exhibition, "Edvard Munch's Mermaid," focused on the PMA's recent acquisition of the Munch painting, Mermaid. Painted in 1896, Mermaid had never been featured in a museum exhibition before and it had remained in private hands until it came to the PMA in 2003. The exhibition, curated by John Zarobell, Assistant Curator of European Painting before 1900, and Shelley R.
