The Women's Committee hosted a grand dinner and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Bernice McIlhenny Wintersteen Student Center at the museum. The event took place on January 10, 1969. Mrs. Wintersteen was an avid supporter and an honorary member of the Women's Committee. Governor Raymond P. Shafer and Mayor James Tate attended the event.
