At their monthly meeting held June 8, 1877, the Board of Trustees elected 13 of their own members to serve as an Executive Committee. The committee had the authority to transact "current business of the Board" with exceptions provided in the charter and bylaws. The Executive Committee held its first monthly meeting three days after its formal inception.
