Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials gathered by Richard S. Field during his research for the PMA exhibition, "Silk Screen: History of a Medium," 1972. It includes correspondence with artists and commercial screen printers, photographs, and various publications. It also includes materials orginating from Carl Zigrosser, which was presumably gathered by Field during his research. Zigrosser was Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art between 1940 and 1963. The Zigrosser series contains articles, correspondence, exhibition announcements, notes, and other ephemera related to screen printing and screen printing organizations.

The Richard S. Field Screen Printing Collection is the physical property of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Archives. Biographical / Historical

Richard S. Field was curator of Prints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the early 1970s. He went on to become Curator Emeritus of Prints and Drawings at the Yale University Art Gallery.
