Scope and Contents
This subseries pertains to legal issues regarding the administration of various estates of friends and family, primarily the estates of John D. and Frances P. McIllhenny. Documentation includes correspondence with banks and attorneys, wills, legal agreements, bequests and deeds. Subjects include the disposition of the McIlhenny family art collection to the PMA and trust fund agreements with Girard and First Pennsylvania Bank. There also is material regarding the establishment of charitable trusts for Harvard University and Pennsylvania Hospital. Following the 1952 death of Bernice's husband, John Wintersteen, of McCoy, Evans & Lewis, the law offices of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews and Ingersoll managed the family estates, including those of McIlhenny and his sister. The firm also provided general legal advice.
