Exhibition Records, 1968-1985
Scope and Contents
Most of this material documents the 1984 exhibition, "Philadelphians and the China Trade, 1784-1844." The files are topically arranged and pertain to issues such as lenders, exhibition reviews, related institutions, bibliographies, and research subjects that include merchants, importers and investors, ships and manifests and Chinese export objects. Material consists of correspondence, photographs, lists, index cards, clippings and cassette tapes. A small group of files document other exhibitions, beginning with "Art Treasures from Japan," held in 1966 and including the 1971 show on Chinese calligraphy, which is the subject of Series 10.
