Historic preservation projects, 1914-1954, undated
Scope and Contents
Records in this series document Kimball's involvement with three projects to identify, evaluate, and protect American historic and archaeological resources. Two of the projects predate the Historic Sites, Buildings, and Antiquities Act of 1935, and are related to the early preservation efforts of private professional organizations, specifically the Archaeological Institute of America and the American Institute of Architects. In both cases, Kimball served as the chairman of a committee dedicated to fostering interest in and preservation of historic monuments, buildings, and art. The third subseries documents Kimball's involvement with the United States government and specifically, the National Park Service, as a member of the Advisory Board of National Parks, Historic Sites, Buildings and Monuments. This Board, created in response to the 1935 historic preservation act, advised the Park Service on the acquisition, restoration and management of historic sites.
