Comparative salaries of museum employees including PMA. Correspondence, reports and clippings, 1930-1932, 1937-1945
Scope and Contents
These papers were originally processed as part of the Fiske Kimball Papers (FKP). According to the original finding aid, Kimball began assembling these files in 1925 when he was appointed director of the museum. Those files documenting Kimball's research and writings about the history of museums and museum planning in general have remained in the Fiske Kimball Papers, in the "Writing and research" series, "Articles" subseries. The particular files are "The Modern Museum of Art" and "Planning the Art Museum," both published in the Architectural Record. The folders transferred here document many of the concerns of the day-to-day operation of a museum in general and the PMA in particular. As made evident in these papers, Kimball often called upon colleagues at other institutions for comparative analyses that would allow him to develop PMA policies. The files devoted to PMA include articles written about the museum and material regarding interior space planning. Correspondence with vendors hired by the museum has been transferred to the "General correspondence and related material" series. Those vendors are cross-referenced here.
