Bowman, Elizabeth W. Malcolm Estate (and Memorial). Funding for Romanesque objects, and military objects and armor, 1930-1933, undated

 File — Box: 185, Folder: 16

Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This subseries consists of two groups of files. The first set, in which files are titled by object or collection, documents items that do not fall within any of the handbook categories or those no longer collected by the museum, primarily objects from Memorial Hall. Also included are two scrapbooks Kimball apparently assembled of various period rooms, galleries and painting collections. Many of the photographs were featured in various issues of the museum's bulletin. The second set, consisting of the files entitled "Objects Offered Sampling," consists of correspondence and related material, usually photographs, arranged in chronological order only. Identified during the previous processing as a subsection to one of the "Objects" series, this group was an artificial compilation and noted as being a "sampling." Therefore, similar offers can still be found within the "General correspondence and related material" series. Although not a complete record, these files have been maintained as a group since the papers illustrate the array of objects offered by dealers, private collectors and the general public. In the twenty years represented, offers ranged from Gainsborough portraits to a buffalo skin coat worn by a Quaker missionary when she drove her buggy across the plains of central South Dakota.
