Scope and Contents

Of the few files identified by collection name, two pertain to collections that, although cared for by the museum, are actually the property of the City of Philadelphia. The collections of both John G. Johnson and John Howard McFadden came to reside at PMA during Kimball's earlier years at the museum.

Conditions Governing Access

The collection is open for research. Because of its fragile condition, the following item may only be consulted with permission of the Archivist: floor plan with annotations of PMA Gothic installations (in "Objects and related topics" series, "European decorative arts and arms and armor" subseries, "Rooms and architectural elements" sub-subseries, "England. Gothic installations at PMA, incl. Abergavenny, Wales" file).

Alphabetical. Most of the files are titled by name of artist. The files noted as "alphabet" document groups of artists with surnames corresponding to that particular letter. Other groupings of more than one artist include files titled by country of origin.
