Appointment as Director of Academy and consolidation of the Academy and the Phildelphia Orchestra Association, 1958

 File — Box: 115, Folder: 6

Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Although the Academy of Music was the home of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the latter was named the Academy's "parent corporation," the administration of the two organizations remained separate. This subseries contains files related to McIlhenny's work with the Academy of Music. Documentation includes various materials related to concert programming, fundraising and building upkeep. Appointed Director of the Academy in 1958, McIlhenny also served on various committees and the Board of Trustees.

Despite a 1958 letter indicating a consolidation of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Music and the Philadelphia Opera Association and organizational chart revised in 1971 to include the Philadelphia Orchestra Association as the Academy's "parent corporation," the administration of these organizations remained distinct.
