Scope and Contents

This series documents McIlhenny's lifetime of service and philanthropy to numerous institutions in Philadelphia and in Ireland. Always committed to supporting local causes, and especially those related to his passions of art, music, gardening, and interior design, McIlhenny donated to these organizations and served on many of their boards and committees. This series consists of a variety of material, including correspondence, invoices and receipts, ephemera, and meeting minutes, the bulk of which relates to McIlhenny's affiliation with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia Orchestra Association, the Academy of Music and the Metropolitan Opera. Material pertaining to contributions made by McIlhenny's mother and by his sister is also included and processed separately.
