  • Historical Note

    George H. Marcus headed the Publications department beginning in 1968. During the 1970s and 1980s, Christine K. Ivusic and Janet Watkins served consecutively as his Assistant/Senior Editors. Sherry Babbitt joined the department in 1978 as secretary. Promoted over the next two decades, Babbitt succeeded Marcus in 2001 as Director of the department, which by then operated under its current designation of "Publishing."

  • Scope and Content Note

    This record group pertains to publications produced by the Museum during the 1970s and early 1980s. These published works include catalogs and handbooks of specific collections owned by the Musuem or in its custody, exhibition catalogues and checklists, Bulletin articles, engagement calendars, and miscellaneous booklets. Documentation consists primarily of draft writings, notes, edited typescripts, proofs, and mock-ups, as well as correspondence, photographs, reviews and other clippings.
