Research material compiled after publication, 1945-1953, undated
Scope and Contents
"The Life Portraits of Jefferson and their Replicas" was a lecture given by Kimball at the National Gallery of Art on April 18, 1943 as part of the 200th anniversary celebration of the President's birth. Kimball later gave the lecture again at the American Philosophical Society on April 12, 1944. The Society published the lecture in its Proceedings of December 28, 1944. The records consist primarily of Kimball's research material regarding artists who had portraiture sittings with Jefferson, as well as artists who created replicas from the life sittings. Other material consists of an abstract of the lecture, correspondence, illustrations, and the manuscript, typescript, proof and printed versions of the article.
