Biography

Ella Schaap joined the museum staff in 1956 as a volunteer. She then spent time at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1980, she came back to volunteer in what was then known as the Medieval and Renaissance Decorative Arts department. By 1982, Schaap was named Curatorial Associate for the Garvan Tiles Exhibition and approximately one year later for the Dutch Tiles Collection.

This file contains two sessions of oral history interviews with Ella Schaap, who was a curator at the Philadelphia Musuem of Art beginning in the mid 1950s. In the second interview session, Ella Schaap is joined by her friend and past colleague Mary Anne Dutt Justice, another past curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
